Kate Douglas Wiggin REBECCA OF SUNNYBROOK FARM New York Grosset & Dunlap 1903 Second Issue reprint Hardcover Very Good No jacket Don't be mislead by bookseller's who have not done their homework! This is a second-issue reprint by Grosset & Dunlap, a house that specialized in reprints much as Book Club does today, and that was produced in 1903, shortly after the original was released by Houghton Mifflin, also in 1903. Line 9 page 325 "Don't go to the side door," which was in the original, has been changed to "Don't turn in at the side;" and Line 9 page 327 - "Bricks glowing in the sun of.." has been retained, adding a comma after 'bricks.' Issued as a trade edition with green cloth boards and a paste-down front board illustration, the color on which has all but faded, though the illustration (as can be seen in the photograph) is still quite clear. Spine is bumped at heel and head, and spine has absorbed a great deal of sunlight over the decades, resulting in a noticeable amount of sunning--but only to the spine. Text block is square and tight, even after 105 years! Pages have some age-related fading, but no foxing, no tears, dog-ears, loose hinges, or other flaws. Former owner's name is elegantly written in pencil on the front endpaper, and curiously, a personal note is inscribed (also in pencil) on the last page, apparently in the former owner's handwriting, stating her opinion of the book ("A very nice book indeed") and that she had read it "to the others." This note is dated 9:30 p.m. July 28-1911. Price:
